It is important for residents to give opinions and participate in urban regeneration projects. Urban regeneration college is being operated to strengthen the capacity of residents. In this study, the educational satisfaction of the students was surveyed while conducting the program of urban regeneration college. By analyzing survey, we intend to derive implications when constructing an urban regeneration college education program. The survey was conducted on 215 students from urban regeneration college in y-gun. Analysis was performed using the spss24.0 program. As a result of factor analysis, it was classified into three factors: education design, education culture, and education support. All three factors had significant differences in educational satisfaction. Satisfaction with education had a significant effect on the possibility of village development. Satisfaction was different according to the contents of the educational program according to the awareness of urban regeneration. For those who are aware of urban regeneration, educational culture among educational programs has more influence on educational satisfaction. Those who were not aware of urban regeneration had an effect on education support and education satisfaction. The results of this study can be used as basic data when planning educational programs for urban regeneration college.
Recently, natural disasters caused by climate change have become more frequent across the world. Our country is also not exceptional, and it is urgent to come up with appropriate measures in the agricultural sector as the size and intensity of drought are becoming severe. Consequently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food has continuously raised the need for efficient water management and governance to overcome the periodic drought. Thus, there is a need for water-saving education and water conservation governance for sustainable and efficient use of agricultural water. Governance is a cooperative mechanism involving various stakeholders, such as central, local, civil society, and businesses, to solve regional or social problems, with different definitions and concepts depending on the field or scope. In this study, we aim to present basis of a governance framework for direct water management participation involving the key agricultural water use stakeholders to imbibe the culture of water savings and conservation practices. Based on this, water-saving governance was established and operated in Gyeongju and Yeoju, in South Korea as a ‘water conservation practice’, while the water management status of local farmers, the reliability and importance of stakeholders, and the need for governance were investigated. The results indicate that the involvement of various stakeholders in the governance of water management yielded water-saving effects. This study provides the directions of making a framework for water-saving governance establishment and operation. It is expected that sustainable agricultural water use can be achieved in response to climate change if the governance builds and operates with agricultural water use stakeholders based on the continuous government supports.
Rice straw management and winter crop cultivation are crucial components for the accurate estimation of paddy methane emissions. Field-based extensive investigation of paddy organic matter management requires enormous efforts however it becomes more feasible as drone technology advances. The objectives of this study were to identify paddy fields of straw application and winter crop cultivation using drone images and to apply for the estimation of yearly methane emission. Total 35 sites of over 150ha in area were selected nationwide as the study areas. Drone images of the study sites were taken twice during summer and winter in 2018 through 2019: Summer images were used to identify paddy cultivation areas, while winter images for straw and winter crop practices. Drone-image-based identification results were used to estimate paddy methane emission and compared with conventional method. As the result, mean areas for paddy, straw application and winter crop cultivation were 118.9ha, 12.0ha, and 11.3ha, respectively. Overall rice straw application rate were greater in Gyeonggi-do(20%) and Chungcheongnam-do(12%), while winter crop cultivation was greatest in Gyeongsangnam-do(30%) and Jeolla-do(27%). Yearly mean methane emission was estimated to be 226.2kg CH4/ha/yr in this study and about 32% less when compared to 331.8kg CH4/ha/yr estimated with the conventional method. This was primarily because of the lower rice straw application rate observed in this study, which was less than quarter the rate of 55.62% used for the conventional method. This indicates the necessity to use more accurate statistics of rice straw application as well as winter crop practices into paddy methane emission estimation. Thus it is recommended to further study to link drone technology with satellite image analysis in order to identify organic management practices at a paddy field level over extensive agricultural area.
Ecosystem services play a role in promoting sustainable development by contributing to human welfare. For sustainable development, a balance between supply and demand for ecosystem services must be made. In this regard, in this study, factor analysis was performed using the results of measuring ecosystem services for the supply of ecosystem services and national statistical data representing socio-economic factors for demand for ecosystem services The results of analysis for Gyeong-gi Province are as follows. The service supply based on the result of ecosystem services was divided into the mixed service provisioning as factor1, the food provisioning as factor2, and the P retention service provisioning area as factor3. As for the demand for services based on socio-economic factors, factor1 is divided into urbanized areas, factor2 is forest development area, and factor3 is agricultural activity development area. Local governments that maintain balance were evaluated as Pocheon, Yangpyeong, Icheon, Pyeongtaek, Goyang, Suwon, Gwangmyeong, and Osan, and imbalanced local governments appeared in Gimpo, Uiwang, Anseong, and Yeoju. A management plan to maintain the balance between supply and demand of ecosystem services was suggested. The analysis method and results of this study are expected to be applicable to various local governments through regional expansion.
The purpose of this study is to identify the determinants of local farmers’ participation and acceptance level in traditional agricultural technology conservation activities, using on the traditional agricultural water utilization system in Uiseong designated as Korea’s important agricultural heritage system No. 10. The Heckman sample selection model was used to solve the selection bias. The results show that as the interest in the conservation of the agricultural ecological and environment is high, as the traditional agricultural system in Uiseong is used, as the cultivation area of paddy field increased, and as the age 50s or older, the willingness to participate in conservation activities increased. The results also indicate that as the experience of participating in the conservation of the agricultural ecological and environment and the hours of education are increased, the knowledge of the traditional agricultural system in Uiseong is low, and as the cultivation area of paddy field decreased, the acceptance time for conservation activities increased. The results of this study may contribute to government’s policy for traditional agricultural technology conservation.
The purpose of this study was to examine the area of Woljeong-ri, Jeju, as a target site in order to derive the landscape features of Jeju Batdam, designated as an agricultural heritage. The summary of the research results is as follows. First, the Batdam of Woljeong-ri is closely related to the local natural envrionment, forming a unique landscape pattern in terms of shape and scale. Second, the site where drainage management is important due to its geological characteristics has a water resource management Batdam landscape for effective drainage management. Third, the farmers in Woljeong-ri, who have been engaged in agricultural activities for a long time, have implemented a utilization system that considers different land conditions. As a result, the landscape of Batdam in Woljeong-ri, Jeju, shows the characteristics of the landscape that is constantly evolving.
This study aims to understand the concept of ‘ruralism’ in Korea by comparing with ‘rurality’ which were dealt with in various fields related to rural areas in Korea. This study conducted a systematic literature review as a methodology. The process is defining key questions, searching for documents, classifying documents, extracting data, and presenting results. The key questions were set to ‘How has the term ‘ruralism’ been used in various studies?’ and ‘How can the concept of rurality in Korea be organized?’ according to the purpose of the study. The study retrieved literature by searching on Korean academic database, RISS and DBpia, using the five keywords ‘농촌성’, ‘농촌다움’, ‘농촌다운’, ‘Rurality,’ and ‘Ruralism.’ The search yielded 1,014 documents which were thereafter screened by systematic literature review process. After sifting, only 31 publications were found suitable for inclusion in the final analysis. This study organized them into four categories: rural concept, rural landscape, rural tourism, and rural development. The literature divided into four types. Type I is a study that deals only with economy·society among studies related to rurality, Type II is a study that deals with both the economic·social and physical environment, Type III is a study that deals with the physical environment of a rural area and presents the rural planning principle as maintenance and preservation. Finally, Type IV is a study that presents ruralism as a new rural planning principle for a future rural area. In the end, the study discussed some implications on defining ruralism in Korea.
As the paradigm of green has been expended as the core of sustainable development in Korea, agro-healing projects increasingly have been a priority at the national policy and investment area. But little is known about the current overview of national research and development(R&D) related to agro-healing. The aim of this study was generally to investigate the research trends of national R&D related to agro-healing over the past five years. Dataset were gathered from provided by National Science & Technology Information Service(NTIS), word cloud techniques were applied. The main results showed that amounts of number and funding related to agro-healing projects have been increasing. In particular, the Rural Development Administration had the highest number of research, and it was found that the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy have spended a lot of money on agro-healing. As a results, it is necessary to expand the scope of the field of agro-healing projects, especially at the multisectoral and intersectoral level for improving health, well-being and a sustainable future.
This study was attempted to provide a scientific basis for the problem of location selection by spatial scale for efficient promotion of projects related to green care farm complex. Location potential assessment system in local government scale consists of two major components from demand-side and supply-side consideration. The demand-side aspect considered the characteristics of potential users, while supply-side aspect used total 18 indices over 8 divisions under 3 fields. For the location potential assessment in district scale, total 8 indices under 3 major divisions were considered based on biological, physical, social, and economic environment. The application results of the location potential evaluation system in local government scale(excluding metropolitan cities) showed high location potential in southern Gyeonggi Province and near Busan Metropolitan City. As a result of applying the district-scale location potential evaluation system to Geumsan-gun, Geumsan-eup, Chubu-myeon, and Jewon-myeon have high potential. Further studies to improve the applicability of the developed indices are recommended by enhancing assessment indices, complementing base data, and reinforcing with spatial analysis.
In this study, the characteristics of rural tourism image perceived by urban residents were analyzed through text analysis of blog data. In order to examine the images related to rural tourism, blog data written with the keyword “Gochang-gun travel” was used. LDA topic analysis, one of the text mining techniques, was used for the analysis. In the tourism image of Gochang-gun, 9 topics were derived, and 112 major places appeared. This was divided into 3 main activities and 5 object spaces through the review of keywords and the original text of blog data. As a result of the analysis, the traditional main resources of the region, Seonun mountain, Seonun temple, and Gochang-eup fortress, formed topic. On the other hand, world heritage such as dolmen and Ungok wetland did not appear as topic. In particular, the farms operated by the private sector form individual topics, and the theme farm can be seen as an important resource for tourism in Gochang-gun. Also, through the distribution of place keywords, it was possible to understand the characteristics of travel by region and the usage behavior of visitors. In the case of Gochang-gun, there was a phenomenon in which visitors were biased by region. This seems to be the result of Gochang-gun seeking to vitalize local tourism focusing on natural, ecological, and scenic resources. It is necessary to establish a plan for balanced regional development and develop other types of tourism resources. This study is different in that it identified the types and characteristics of rural tourism images in the region perceived by visitors, and the status of tourism at the regional level.
